7 Scary Movies for a Screaming Good Halloween
Culture

This list of Halloween movies has everything from jump scares to the queen of the Final Girls.

Watch your favorites return to face notorious evildoers Candy Man and Michael Myers. Plus, especially for the kids, Wednesday, Pugsley, Morticia and Gomez Addams star in a double creature feature. And what would All Hallows’ Eve be without a good scare from Stephen King? To round out the list, there’s a farmhouse with a chilling secret and, for the finale, a horror comedy starring Elijah Wood as a man who finally meets his father, and hopes he lives to regret it.

Check out the AFE blog to find out more about these Halloween movies, including how you can stream them for your own frightening film festival right at home.

It’s been a long wait for this reboot-slash-sequel of the 1992 film with the same name, and it even has returning cast members Vanessa Estelle Williams and Tony Todd. The movie stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett and Colman Domingo. It is directed by Nia DaCosta, and written by DaCosta, Jordan Peele and Win Rosenfeld.

In the original, the Candyman was a Chicago urban legend who terrorized and killed anyone who said his name five times in a mirror. The new film is the story of an artist, kidnapped as a baby by the Candyman, who as an adult, uncovers the origins of the old legend. When he incorporates what he’s learned into his visual works, he unknowingly provokes a new beginning that puts him on the brink of madness and endangers everyone around him.
