Superunknown will be performing with Armed Forces Entertainment

May 8, 2023 – Grunge tribute band Superunknown will be performing with Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE) this summer. They will be performing five shows as part of AFE’s annual Heat Wave campaign, which features musicians, athletes, and other talented performers. Their shows run from June 29 to July 4 of this year.

Starting in 2018 as a solo act with vocalist/guitarist Jason Reed, Superunknown now consists of a full band featuring Damon St. Alborne on vocals, Louis Graff on guitar, Tom Laskas on bass, and Ron DiSilvestro on drums. Superunknown covers a variety of bands from the 90’s and 00’s era of grunge music, including Soundgarden, Foo Fighters, Rage Against the Machine and Alice in Chains, among others. They have played popular venues like the Gramercy Theatre in New York City; The Queen in Wilmington, DE; and the World Café Live and Underground Arts venues in Philadelphia, PA.

“I’ve always been a huge fan of the music of Chris Cornell,” says Jason Reed, vocalist for the band. “When I first heard Soundgarden in the early ‘90s, I was blown away and I started learning their songs.” Reed also creates original music with his band, the Reed Brothers Band. On his musical influences, he says: “When I was a kid, I was drawn to singers like Robert Plant and Steven Tyler who could sing in a high register with power. With Soundgarden, Chris Cornell took that power to a whole new level. What stood out in Temple of the Dog was the writing; those songs are so heartfelt, with a universal message I think anyone can relate to, and I love the dynamic range of Audioslave.”

After Cornell’s death in 2017, Reed desired to perform a “one-off” solo acoustic tribute show. After opening for some of the local Grunge-a-Palooza festivals with his solo acoustic set, he performed all over the Northeast United States, meeting band members who would become part of Superunknowns. In addition to this tour, they currently have other events scheduled through the rest of the year.

The Superunknown tour is presented by AFE. Since 1951, AFE has been providing the best performances for U.S. troops and their families stationed overseas, and they are committed to boosting the morale and well-being of service members through world-class live events and performances.
