Also, Today’s Country Magazine reviewed the showcase and said “Hollywood isn’t necessarily doing anything that much different than the likes of Jamey Johnson or Randy Houser, but he does have a uniqueness to his sound that he combines with a presence alone that is enough to attract attention and when you mix in the fact that the guy can sing an upbeat ,rocking, tune with a voice that booms over the crowd. You can definitely see that this is someone that is about to peak tremendous interest amongst the industry.”
Alex " Militia" Castro
Cuban born Actor/Entertainer Alex Castro who starred in NBC’s hit show “American Gladiators,” attempted crossing the sea to Miami from Cuba in 1994. The boat he was on, with five others, sank in a storm and the men clung to a life preserver, with only a little water and no food. Three of them, including Castro’s cousin, perished. “That experience determined who I am,” says Castro who was eventually rescued by the U.S. Marines. “If I can survive at sea for five days with only a little water and no food, then I can survive in this country and in this business, as tough as it is”. He has surely survived, and is currently being seen by millions starring as Militia on “American Gladiators,” the revival of the 1980’s series. Castro got his start in showbiz in Havana, where he was part of the famed Tropicana nightclub troupe. Once stateside, his first gig was something completely different: four years with the U.S. Marines. “It was my gesture of thanks to join, because they rescued me & gave me the opportunity to follow my dreams.”
After his honorable discharge, Alex appeared in various music videos with major artists such as Will Smith & Gloria Estefan. He eventually joined the prestigious Cirque du Soleil which allowed him to perform and demonstrate his amazing strength and physical abilities to sold-out audiences around the world and in Las Vegas. Five years later, Castro was spotted by an NBC producer while performing a circus stunt at a charity event. That opportunity has landed him in role of Militia. Hollywood is definitely taking notice.
