For many service members, family is their biggest support system and an important part of that family are their spouses. Each and every spouse deserves to be celebrated every day, but on Military Spouse Appreciation Day we wanted to take a small moment to especially acknowledge their support and sacrifices.
When establishing the holiday in 1984, President Reagan said this:
“Responding to the call of duty, [Military spouses] frequently endured long periods of separation or left familiar surroundings and friends to reestablish their homes in distant places. And there they became American ambassadors abroad.”
Military spouses serve as an important cornerstone in the lives of their service members. Their support – and their sacrifices – don’t go unnoticed. To help us celebrate Military Spouse Appreciation Day this year, we’re highlighting comedian Heather Marie.
Heather, a proud Navy wife, is a touring comedian, actress and AFE alumni. In addition to being the support system for her own Sailor, Heather is a shining example of a military spouse supporting the military community. Heather uses her talents as a comedian to bring laughter to troops deployed overseas and hosts San Diego Fleet Week each year.
Comedy is Heather’s passion. She says she loves to make people laugh, especially the troops who work so hard, and a quick scroll through her Instagram highlights how excited she is about performing.
But the second feature on her account is her relationship with her husband and the support they give to each other – and their community. Whether it’s her involvement in Fleet Week, celebrating important milestones together, reuniting after a long deployment, or just making dinner for fellow service members, Heather is just one example of the incredible support of a military spouse.
To Heather and all the military spouses – thank you. We salute you!
