It’s that time of year for three major American staples: turkey, family, and of course, football.
Football and Thanksgiving are deep-rooted traditions in American culture, and that’s no mistake–football is almost as old as the Thanksgiving holiday. The first Thanksgiving was officially celebrated in 1863, as proclaimed by Abraham Lincoln himself. 13 years later in 1876, Yale and Princeton played each other in the first Thanksgiving football game.
With adjusted COVID scheduling this year, you won’t be watching any NCAA action with a turkey leg in hand. But don’t you worry, the NFL has you covered with three classic matchups this holiday.
Don’t let the haters get you down this Thanksgiving.
To get you ready for a full day of turkey and football, here’s the rundown for Thanksgiving 2020:
Houston Texans at Detroit Lions
12:30pm ET

Ah yes, the Detroit Lions and Thanksgiving, a tradition that’s held since 1934. It all started back in the day when former owner and marketing whiz George A. Richards packed out the Lions stadium on Thanksgiving day when most of Detroit was off work. The rest is history.
This year Houston Texans (2-6) will be facing off the Detroit Lions (3-5) at Ford Field. The Lions and Texans have only faced each other four other times in history, with the Lions winning the first time and losing the next three, with each loss by a slim margin. It’s gonna be a close one. Will the Lions come back on top? Tune in and see!

Washington at Dallas Cowboys
4:30pm ET
Networks: FOX, NFL Gamepass, FuboTV
“America’s Football team” the Dallas Cowboys are the other staple Thanksgiving tradition. The Cowboys have been playing on Thanksgiving since 1966.
Washington (2-6) will be taking on the Cowboys (2-7) at the AT&T Stadium. With Dallas QB Dak Prescott and Washington QB Kyle Allen both out for the season for serious ankle injuries, it’s going to be a battle of the backups.
This hand signal could only mean he’s getting ready to eat some turkey.
Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers
7:20PM CST
Networks: FOX, NFL Gamepass, FuboTV
For the final turkey day matchup, we’ll be watching the Baltimore Ravens (6-2) take on the Pittsburgh Steelers (8-0). Although the Ravens have made a strong showing this season, we expect the undefeated Steelers to take the game. At the time of writing, QB Ben Roeslesberger is currently out due to knee injuries and Covid isolation, but we may see him return to the field on Thanksgiving.
